A Moment for Moms
Keeping It between the Two of You
“He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends” (Proverbs 17:9, NIV).
When we feel hurt, the first thing we want is to be comforted. As little kids we ran to mommy, who could always make it better. As moms we usually run to our friends. Most of the time that’s a good thing. But in some cases we need to think twice before we pour out our anger and hurt to a friend, especially if another friend is the cause of our pain. If that’s the case, we need to go directly to the offending friend and work things out. That way only one person—or at the most, two people—will have some forgiving to do.
Lord, You have forgiven me of so much; how dare I even consider not showing mercy to someone who has offended me? Help me to resist the temptation to air my grievances to other people. Let me be the kind of person who immediately comes first to You and then, with grace and mercy, directly to the person who has hurt me.
